Verification is the process of checking whether equipment is in proper working condition and suitable for use. This may include checking for visible damage, wear, broken parts, improper operation, or other conditions that could affect the equipment’s ability to perform correctly.
For example, a tape measure may be inspected for nicks, bends, damage to the blade, unreadable markings, or alignment issues that could make the tape unreliable or unusable.
Verification helps determine whether the equipment is acceptable for continued use or whether it should be repaired, replaced, or returned to the manufacturer.
Calibration and verification are often performed together. A piece of equipment may need to be inspected for proper condition before calibration, and the calibration results may help determine whether the equipment is acceptable for use.
In some cases, especially when the equipment is not manufactured or serviced by our company, we may perform verification only. If the equipment is found to be damaged, malfunctioning, or outside acceptable condition, it may need to be returned to the manufacturer for repair or replacement.
Simply put:
Calibration checks accuracy. Verification checks usability.
